How to save energy?

  • Turn off lights and all electronics (like computers, televisions, stereos, and video-games) when you leave a room.
  • Use the microwave instead of the oven for cooking your meals.
  • Open your blinds or curtains on sunny winter days to let the sun shine into your home.
  • Save hot water by taking short showers instead of baths
  • Turn off the water while you brush your teeth.
  • Don’t leave the refrigerator door open. Every time you open the door, up to one-third of the cold air can escape.
  • Help your mum or dad plant a tree to help shade your house on hot summer days.
  • Shut off the lights when you're done using them, and turn off the TV, computer, video games and other electrical stuff when you leave the room.
  • Try to keep the oven door completely closed until food is cooked. Every time the door is opened, the oven temperature drops by 14° - 20°C
  • Drying in the sun is free!

Zero Footprint Youth Count

The results from the survey showed that my Footprint was 6.61 tonnes of CO2. It was bigger than the worlds average human Footprint which is 1.25 tonnes of CO2. Even with the reduction I choose it only reduced by 0.54 tonnes of CO2.

I think my footprint is big because I went to Queensland by airplane. We use the car for shopping and visiting and dad uses it for work. We also use public transport.

Things we could do that help are drive less, recycle more, use reusable bags, and buy local food, don’t hose the lawn in summer and use solar energy.
